Man held on charge of murdering father

The Kottur police have arrested a 28-year-old man on charges of murdering his father in a drunken brawl.

J. Rajalingam, a resident of Thensangampalayam on Anamalai Road, was arrested by the police for murdering his father M. Jothimani (55). The incident happened around 11 p.m. on Thursday when Rajalingam, his elder brother Sreedharan (31) and Jothimani were in an inebriated state at their house.

According to the police, the siblings picked up a quarrel and Jothimani tried to intervene. He suffered a blow on his head as Rajalingam attacked Sreedharan with an iron rod.

Following the incident, Jothimani sought treatment as an outpatient at Government Hospital, Kottur, and went for work as usual on Friday.

However, Jothimani’s condition deteriorated around 11 p.m. on Friday. He was first taken to Kottur GH and later shifted to Government Hospital, Pollachi.

On Saturday morning, Jothimani fainted while being taken to the Radiology Department to take scan of the head injury. Though he was referred to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, he was declared brought dead on arrival.

Following Jothimani’s death, the police held Rajalingam late on Saturday.
