HYDERABAD: A 24-year-old woman from Nallakunta, Hemalatha, delivered quadruplets, two boys and two girls, at Geetha Nursing Home in Chilkalguda on Sunday.

Though the woman had delivered the quadruplets on April 2, the babies, who weigh around 1 kg, were declared safe and handed over to the mother at the BCC Neo Hospital in the city on Sunday.

According to doctors, quadruplets are born once in every 8 lakh births. “Usually, we just read about these cases but rarely get to see them. Also, the babies’ chances of survival in such cases is rare but in this case all four babies were healthy and showed significant weight gain over the last 20 days,” said Dr NL Sridhar, paediatrician and managing director of BBC Neo Hospital where the babies were kept under observation.

The woman underwent a C-section. “The four babies were delivered within 2 minutes with just 50 to 60 seconds difference. Since we knew about the pregnancy, our team of four doctors were at the Geetha nursing home for the delivery and the babies were shifted to our facility on the same day,” added the doctor.
