Daltonganj: Union home minister Rajnath Singh will address a rally in Hussainabad in Palamu constituency on Tuesday. The constituency is Singh’s second as his in-laws reside at Belwatiker Mohalla in Daltonganj. Late last year, Singh made an unannounced visit to the town to see his ailing mother-in-law. Incidentally, BJP candidate and former DGP V D Ram’s in-laws also reside at Nayi Mohalla in Daltonganj.
With Palamu going to the polls on April 29, Singh’s rally in Hussainabad is seen as an attempt to play the emotional card too woo voters, party insiders said. As per the schedule released by BJP, Singh’s first election rally in Karpoori Maidan in Hussainabad will be for about 40 minutes from 12.05pm. He will address two more rallies in Itkhori (Chatra) and Chouparan (Hazaribag).
Bipin Kumar Singh, vice-chairman of Palamu’s 20-point programme implementation committee, said the rally will boost the morale of party workers. “People of Hussainabad are looking forward to hear Rajnath. It will be a boost for the cadres and leaders of the party ahead of the polls,” he said
Hussainabad, which has a sizeable Rajput population, is also known as Chittorgarh among locals. “We hope Rajnath, with his penchant to connect with voters, will strike an emotional chord with the people, especially the elderly, in Hussainabad. He is the damaad of this soil and is campaigning for another damaad (Ram),” said a local leader.
On the other hand, mahagatbandhan candidate Ghuram Ram (RJD) is trying to play the son-of-the-soil card. I am the son of the soil. Serving people is our religion. This time, Palamu will bid goodbye to the damaad,” he said.
