Gurgaon: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced its candidates for three Lok Sabha seats in Haryana on Sunday. They included state party chief Naveen Jaihind from Faridabad, Prithvi Raj from Ambala and Krishan Kumar Agarwal from Karnal. AAP is fighting Lok Sabha elections in Haryana in alliance with JJP, which will contest from the remaining seven seats in the state.
Jaihind said their campaign will focus on corruption in the city. “In Faridabad, we will fight against the corrupt practices of the sitting MLA and his uncle (mama-bhanja).” He added there is little by way of implementation of central schemes in Faridabad. Jaihind will be contesting against incumbent MP Krishan Pal Gujjar of BJP and Avtar Singh Bhadana of Congress.
In Ambala, which is a reserved seat, AAP has fielded ex-DG of BSF Prithvi Raj, who has a track record of catching and eliminating many terrorists during his tenure in Anantnag and India-Bangladesh border. He is also a Dalit activist and has been working with the underprivileged of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
Talking about his first election as a Lok Sabha candidate, he said he was born in a very poor Dalit family. Both his parents were labourers. He has seen problems and issues troubling the poor in this country and wants to work for their welfare. “My entire family has been inspired by principles of Babasaheb Ambedkar. I want to work for the poor, irrespective of caste or religion,” said Prithviraj. He added in Ambala, he plans to fight on issues of illegal mining and rapidly deteriorating groundwater.
“Despite having enjoyed multiple terms in office from this seat, my opponents have done nothing for Ambala. I hope people will give me a chance, and I can make a difference in their lives,” said the AAP candidate. Even though he comes with a strong profile and background, he faces stiff competition from BJP’s incumbent MP Ratan Lal Kataria and Congress leader and sitting Rajya Sabha member Kumari Selja.
AAP’s candidate from Karnal, Krishan Kumar Agarwal, has been associated with the party for a while now. He has been working for businessmen in the constituency. Talking about issues, he said, “Khattar ji [CM Manohar Lal Khattar] didn’t even allow our party chief to enter Karnal to inspect dispensaries. That speaks volumes about the state of healthcare in the constituency.”
He added health and education will be his focus. He’s facing BJP’s Sanjay Bhatia and Congress’ Kuldeep Sharma in this seat .
