The celebrity guide to wearing super bright lehengas to a wedding

Whether you’d like to personify the heyday of saturated shades for a friend’s engagement party or ease into the trend with pops of colour at a mehandi, let the celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Ananya Panday and Janhvi Kapoor show you how to do it

One of the brightest trends to make a comeback this season was vibrant colours. The international spring/summer 2019 runways also saw splashes of high-octane colours—whether it was via Emporio Armani’s acid green suits or Gucci’s neon feathered gowns. Closer to home, saturated shades have made a return to Indian ethnic wear. From lehengas featuring subtle pops of fluorescence to head-to-toe bright creations, the pulse on the saturated colour trend has been channelled by a plethora of Bollywood celebrities in their wedding wear.

Alia Bhatt and Janhvi Kapoor embrace head-to-toe bright lehengas

If you’re done with pastels, it’s time to make room for bold staurated hues in your closet. Alia Bhatt, for one, put her stamp of approval on bright colours on several occasions—from that teal and yellow Raw Mango lehenga she wore for a friend’s roka in 2018 to the first appearance she made with beau Ranbir Kapoor at Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s wedding last May, dressed to the nines in a chartreuse Sabyasachi lehenga. Janhvi Kapoor and Nita Ambani had us falling for bright pinks all over again too, when they both picked looks by Manish Malhotra for Akash Ambani’s wedding festivities.

Ananya Panday, Priyanka Chopra and Sara Ali Khan pick ethnic numbers with bright accents

While some celebrities opted to go all out with their bright choices, others preferred adding touches of saturated hues to their wedding wear ensembles—using them to elevate their looks instead. Look to Priyanka Chopra and Ananya Panday’s Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla numbers for inspiration.

Panday opted to pair a glittery bronze blouse with a skirt bearing geometric patterns in saturated colours, and Priyanka Chopra chose a vibrant lehenga for her mehandi function in Jodhpur, featuring hints of neon.

Scroll ahead to take a look at the celebrities who are paving the way for a super bright wedding wardrobe.
