Two businesses at the city center.

This is just the first part of a 220- million dollar project.

You can now enjoy a steak from jeff ruby's steakhouse or a coffee from starbucks."

"i know it's taken forever with the construction and it is annoying to walk in and one lane's shut down or whatever but on the plus side it's really nice to see them finally opening up something and we're all gonna get to use it and it's in a convinient spot for everyone.

So i think it's definitely worth the wait."

It's been more than 11 years... since this downtown lexington project, started.

Back in 2008... it was called "centrepointe.".... but renamed "city center" just last year.

"city center" is a hotel... office... and business complex that's been in the works for years.... despite some delays that have made the project controversial to some.

"there was nothing it was pure concrete just the library nothing exciting so now it's actually starting to look really pretty out here."

Starbucks opened monday morning... and we were told it was a successful opening day..

With steady business.

Jeff ruby's steakhouse opened later in the afternoon.

"i think for us it's been about nine years, we signed the lease a long time ago.

And ya know patiently waited.

We always knew if we did lexingoton we wanted to be at city center."

Dillon ruby, jeff ruby's son, tells me all good things are worth waiting for..

"this is no exception.

This is by far the most beautfiul, most extravagent over the top restaurant we've ever done."

The restaurant is already booked for the next week or so.

Ruby says it reflects lexington in several ways... "so we've got the wildcat room, we've got the breeders table.

We've got a lot of horse and bourbon and basketball memorbilia after all that's what the city's all about."

In downtown lexington..

"tonight's gonna be an extraordinary night."
