Police have shut down a major city street as they investigate reports of two people climbing a crane.

Collins Street was closed to traffic just after 7am on Sunday.

All trams have also been suspended between Exhibition and Russell streets.

Police and the Metropolitan Fire Brigade are on the scene, attempting to find the pair and remove them from the crane.
