BENGALURU: A 34-year-old private firm employee has been arrested by Electronics City police for allegedly murdering his wife and later trying to pass it off as a case of suicide.

The accused is Ramesh Babu, a resident of Doddathogur and from V Kota in Andhra Pradesh.

On Saturday night, neighbours rushed to the couple’s house after hearing Ramesh’s screams for help. They found his wife, Priyanka, a garment factory employee, hanging from a ceiling fan. A few of his neighbours suspected something fishy and informed Electronics City police.

Police detained Ramesh for questioning. Initially, he told police that his wife committed suicide for reasons unknown. But later he confessed to have strangled her to death and later hanged her from the ceiling fan to make it look like a suicide.

Ramesh, a BCom graduate, married Priyanka seven years ago and shifted to Bengaluru. The couple’s 5-year-old daughter lives with her maternal grandparents in V Kota. Ramesh was working with a private firm. Priyanka suspected that Ramesh had extramarital affairs and it led to frequent fight between them. On Saturday night, following heated arguments, Ramesh took a dupatta and strangled her to death, police said.
