The 3rd Tri-nation T20 Wheelchair Cricket Series will be held in Kolkata, West Bengal on April 26-29. Para-athletic teams from Nepal, Bangladesh and India will be participating.

The national team consists of 14 players from various States across the country. Three of them are from Karnataka.

Shiva Prasad Somashekar, Hareesh Kumar and Sagar Gowda have been selected based on their performance in national league matches earlier this year.

“I have been playing for two years. Initially, the training period was difficult. But, after that, it became easier considering all players are also in wheelchairs. The game is not that different from the adjustments we do in everyday life,” said Somashekar who is the vice-captain of the team.

The trio attribute their selection to their performance in the semi-final in which Karnataka faced Punjab.

The selected para-athletes are to report to a training camp in Haldia from April 22-25 in preparation for the tournament.

Wheelchair Cricket India (WCI), an association founded by international para-athlete and national awardee Pradeep Raj, held its first national and international tournaments in 2017.
