Curfew in Vadakara, minor incidents of violence in many parts of the State

The final push for votes at the end of the open campaigning for the 2019 Lok Sabha election manifested across the State on Sunday as thunderous roadshows that swept through constituencies and culminated in uproarious displays of strength that at some places bordered on aggression.

Minor incidents of violence marked the final phase of the electioneering.

In Vadakara, the police fired tear-gas shells to quell a street-fight between CPI(M) and BJP workers. They have placed several parts of the constituency under curfew.

The Lok Sabha segment where P. Jayarajan of the CPI(M) is fighting K. Muraleedheeran of the Congress and A. Sajeevan of the BJP had witnessed a highly charged campaign.

In Thiruvananthapuram, former Defence Minister A.K. Antony accused LDF activists of impeding his roadshow near the coastal hamlet of Veli. The capital had witnessed a fierce three-cornered contest between Shashi Tharoor of the Congress, C. Divakaran of the LDF and Kummanam Rajasekharan of the BJP.

A Congress worker and two CPI(M) men were injured in an election-related clash at Vengode late night.
