Plan was foiled after Delhi police arrested ‘arms supplier’

Mohammed Abdullah Basith, a youngster from Hafeezbaba Nagar who was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in August last year, had plotted a conspiracy to assassinate a top RSS leader in Maharashtra months before his arrest.

In June last year, he went to Delhi to make a deal for two AK-47 assault rifles worth ₹4 lakh with a Kashmiri youth.

However, his plan flopped after the sleuths of Delhi Police Special Cell arrested the ‘fire-arm supplier’ and Basith returned to Hyderabad in Telangana Express fearing arrest.

After reaching home, he contacted one Huzaifa and expressed his interest in joining the Islamic State - Jammu and Kashmir (ISJK). However, Huzaifa told him that he was not ‘suitable’ for the outfit and assured Basith that he would arrange weapons for him to take revenge, stated a supplementary chargesheet filed by the NIA against Basith and Mohammed Abdul Qhadeer.

“During custodial interrogation, Basith disclosed about his visits and meetings where he discussed ISIS with the intention of hatching a further conspiracy to wage violent jihad,” the chargesheet stated.

Propagating ISIS ideology

It further reads that Basith was making efforts to propagate the ideology of ISIS in India for which he entered into a conspiracy with Adnan Hassan, who was arrested by the agency in connection with 2016 Abu Dhabi module.
