Eldery driver charged over hit and run leaving cyclist bloodied and injured

A female cyclist’s ride in Perth’s east ended in a nightmare when she was hit by a car, trapped and dragged along the road for 100m.

The woman was cycling in Carlisle about 9pm on March 31 when she was struck by a Mitsubishi Pajero near the roundabout at the junction of Bishopsgate Street and Oats Street.

A police spokesman said the cyclist was trapped underneath the Pajero and dragged 100m.

She received extensive injuries including severe burns and lacerations to her arms, hands and face.

The driver failed to stop, leaving the cyclist shocked and injured.

Following police enquiries an 86-year-old Carlisle man has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, failing to stop and ensure the victim received assistance and failing to report the crash.

He is due to appear at Perth Magistrates Court on May 17.

Investigators would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash, or who saw the vehicles prior to the crash or have dash cam footage leading up to or off the crash.
