PUNE: Timely action by the Chatushrungi police saved the life of a 19-year-old, who had hanged herself from the ceiling of her room at Sutarwadi in Pashan in the early hours of Saturday.
Senior inspector Bhaskar Jadhav and his team were patrolling in the Pashan area around 2.30am, when they received an alert from the city police’s control room, stating that a woman had locked herself inside a room at her house.
Jadhav and his team rushed to the house and found the woman’s mother pacing in and out of the house. When they enquired about the young woman and the room, she said her daughter had locked herself in the bedroom of the house and was not responding to calls or knocks on the door.
Jadhav and his team forced the door open and found the woman hanging from the ceiling. They loosened the dupatta from her neck and took her down. The team then took her to a police station, where a counselling session was arranged for her. Jadhav told TOI that the woman was out of danger and has been admitted to a hospital for further treatment.
Police said that the woman belongs to a lower middle-class family and had heated arguments with her family late on Friday night. Following the verbal altercation, she decided to end her life. Police said that she had not written a note before taking the extreme step.
Last October, Two policemen from the Hadapsar police station saved a life of a man who had attempted suicide at his home. The police found the man trying to hang himself from the ceiling with a rope and cut him down.
