In a joint operation, the Nandagudi police and their counterparts from Hosakote conducted a special drive against bikers doing wheelies or indulging in drag races on Saturday night. They seized 73 two-wheelers on National Highway 75.

The drive was conducted after the police received information that a large number of people in bikes, autos and cars were moving towards the outskirts of the city. The two-wheelers among them were found to be performing wheelies.

The Nandagudi and Hosakote police barricaded roads at strategic points and intercepted them.

“Many youth abandoned their motorcycles and fled. We seized the two-wheelers and brought them to the police station,” said a police officer.

The police have booked cases under Section 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way). Four people were arrested and efforts are on to track down the riders and owners of the bikes.

According to the police, most of the seized vehicles are modified bikes. “Bike stunts, drag races, and wheelies on highways are a menace,” the officer added.
