Cardiff as big as Barca insists Robertson
Andy Robertson has insisted that Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Cardiff is as big as their Champions League semi-final tie against Barcelona.
The Scotland captain said:
“They are both as big as each other.
“Barcelona is far in the future. We cannot think about that. We are still going for a league title. We are fighting with Man City. Every game is as big as the next one.
“Cardiff had a magnificent result against Brighton. Warnock will have them up for it, all the players are fighting for their lives and they want to stay in this league.
“It’s a massive game. Hopefully, we can do enough.”

Sky presenter says conditions will favour Reds
Sky Sports presenter David Jones has been down pitchside at Cardiff City and reckons conditions will favour visitors Liverpool.
He said:
“I’ve got a warning for Liverpool ahead of the game here today.
“If you’re thinking about this being a banana skin, let me tell you the pitch is absolutely perfect. Look at that.
“You know in the old days when a team near the bottom of the table would be looking to get an advantage against a team near the top and they might leave the grass long or leave some divots in it or something like that.
“But this could not be any better.
“It’s absolutely stunning.”
Warnock loves to hate Liverpool - but has plenty of time for Klopp
If it’s Cardiff City, then it’s Neil Warnock. And that usually causes ructions within the Liverpool support writes Paul Gorst.
The veteran boss has been very complementary about his Anfield counterpart in the build-up to today’s game.
He said:
“They’re one of the best in the world. Jurgen’s done a fabulous job. It’s all about balance. There were one or two weaknesses and he’s filled those weaknesses, with top players.”
However, he hasn’t always been as charitable to the Reds in the past with several infamous spats.

Coutinho reveals the truth behind celebration
Former Liverpool player Philippe Coutinho - now set to return to Anfield with Barcelona for the Champions League semi-final - has explained his eye-catching fingers in the ear goal celebration against Manchester United.
101 Great Goals report that many have assumed that Coutinho was reacting to the Barcelona crowd.
Since moving to the Camp Nou, Coutinho has often been criticised for failing to live up to expectations.
Yet, according to the former Liverpool playmaker, his celebration against Man United shouldn’t be considered a dig at Barca’s fans.
He said:
“I have always been someone who respects everybody.
“The truth is that this (celebration) was for the people to see that I have to block out the sound in order to focus on a match or on my job so that it won’t affect me.
“It was like a liberation. “

Klopp's injury update
How Reds should line up at Cardiff
Some of the ECHO sportsdesk have been having their say over how Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp should line up his side at Cardiff City today.
Club reporter Ian Doyle reckons Gini Wijnaldum should make way. He writes:
Another big game for Liverpool, and another where they cannot afford to slip up.
The Reds are already guaranteed second place but it’s that top spot they are after, with victory at Cardiff on Sunday enough to send them back above Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp will surely limit any tinkering to a minimum, with Huddersfield Town on Friday the more likely game in which to rotate.
That means the normal suspects in goal, defence and up top.
Midfield is more tricky. I’d have said Gini Wijnaldum but he wasn’t great in Porto, whereas Fabinho was. Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita were no doubt benched in Portugal with this game in mind, and that’s the right call.
My team (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Henderson, Keita; Salah, Firmino, Mane.

Pepe agent confirms transfer talks underway amid Reds interest
Liverpool and Arsenal target Nicolas Pepe has started discussions over a summer transfer, according to his agent report the Mirror.
The winger is the French league’s top scorer having bagged 19 goals and 11 assists this season - at a record of 151 minutes per notch.
Only Paris Saint Germain megastar Kylian Mbappe has netted more times this campaign.
Lille president Gerard Lopez told Telefoot he expects the player to move on and Pepe’s representative Samir Khiat told RTL:
“We are in discussions with clubs. No decision has been taken.
“Today, there are no favourites, be it Bayern Munich or another club. Nicolas will not go just anywhere. We have not decided on which league.”

Van Dijk likened to Cantona
Virgil van DIjk’s impact at Liverpool has been likened to the galvanising effect Eric Cantona had at rivals Manchester United a generation ago.
The Red Devils had not won the title for over two decades before their French talisman arrived but his displays inspired them to get on the trophy trail.
Chris Sutton told BBC Sport:
“Liverpool have not had the same firepower as they did last season so for them to still be in the title race is largely down to Van Dijk’s influence.
“Historically, when one player turns a team into title contenders, it is usually an attacker – like Eric Cantona at Manchester United for example.
“Van Dijk has had the same kind of impact, by making Liverpool statistically into the best defence in the Premier League.”

Reds among pack chasing Ajax ace
Given their Champions League exploits this season, Ajax players are even hotter properties than usual and with the chance to nab one of their most creative outlets for a relative bargain, Liverpool are reportedly among a clutch of clubs vying for his services.
The Mirror reckon that playmaker Hakim Ziyech could be heading to the Premier League — with the Morocco star available for just £25million.
Simon Mullock writes:
The 26-year-old is being watched by league leaders Manchester City — who see him as a potential replacement for contract-rebel midfielder Ilkay Gundogan — while Manchester United , Arsenal and Liverpool are also on his trail. German champions Bayern Munich are interested too.
Ziyech has enjoyed an outstanding season with Ajax, scoring 19 goals and making 20 assists as the sleeping Amsterdam giants have woken up by launching a Treble bid.

Juve plot Salah/Dybala swap deal
Despite wrapping up their eighth consecutive Scudetto, being crowned Serie A champions again, it seems that Juventus still can’t crack Europe.
Having drafted in Champions League specialist Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid last summer, the Portuguese mega star has instead been left frustrated after their shock quarter-final exit to Ajax and reportedly demanded that the Turin club draft in some major new talent ahead of next season.
Gazzetta dello Sport reckon this has prompted Juve chiefs to target Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah with Argentinian Paulo Dybala - linked to the Reds in the past - being used as potential bait to try and snare the Egyptian from Anfield.

Klopp's stirring title message
Jurgen Klopp says his Liverpool players are more than ready to create Anfield history this season, declaring: “We are really in a proper competition mood.”
The Reds boss said:
“I don’t need to read about it, I don’t need to hear about it. I know it, it is football,” he said. “I’ve watched football all my life, I am a football supporter and if my favourite club would be in the situation we are, I would be buzzing.
“That’s how it is, you are constantly on your toes. You want to go out, talk to people, celebrate and talk about all these things, I can’t imagine.
“We are not part of that life anymore. We have to make sure it stays like this and so it is no problem. I love the situation we are in, it is really good, but we have to prove it pretty much everyday, at least in the games.”
