47-year-old run over by bus dies in Mumbai hospital

According to RAK Road police, Shrinivas Divadiga, a resident of PB Road in Grant Road, was riding his scooter when he was knocked down by the private bus on the northbound stretch of the RAK Road.

A 47-year-old man, who was crushed by a private bus while he was riding a scooter at Sewri on Thursday, succumbed to his injuries on Friday. The RAK Road police had arrested the driver on Thursday.

According to RAK Road police, Shrinivas Divadiga, a resident of PB Road in Grant Road, was riding his scooter when he was knocked down by the private bus on the northbound stretch of the RAK Road. “Divadiga was over-taking the bus from the right when he was knocked down. Divadiga’s legs were crushed by the rear right wheel of the truck,” said Bhagwat B Bansod, senior inspector, RAK Road police station.

The accident occurred around 6.45pm and the private bus driver, Sukhdev Gaikwad, 35, was arrested on the spot. Divadiga was rushed to KEM Hospital, Parel, where he succumbed to his injuries early on Friday. “Gaikwad died owing to excessive bleeding,” said Bansod.

Police stated that Gaikwad was speeding and driving negligently. Divadiga was unable to control his two-wheeler when the bus hit him after which he fell on the road. The police have registered a case under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
