BENGALURU: As many as 60 lakh "objectionable" videos generated by users in India have been removed from video-sharing platform TikTok. Battling controversy, the mobile application was recently removed from both Google Play and Apple iStore.
The Supreme Court, which is hearing an appeal by TikTok contesting a Madras High Court order that asked the Centre to ban the application, has listed the case for Monday.
The Madras HC had cited the use of pornographic and abusive content as the reason for the ban. TikTok, used to create and share short videos with special effects, is a Chinese app with more than 5.4 crore active users in India.
Google and Apple removed the application after SC admitted the petition. Some other app may replace TikTok, but putting in place a system that disallows all platforms from having such content should be the priority.
