Indore: Overhaul, Sea changes in Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya admission process

Indore: Making sea changes in its admission process, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya has announced plans to hold doctoral entrance test (DET) with Common Entrance Test (CET) at 28 cities this year.  DET is conducted for admission in PhD courses whereas CET is a national level exams organised by the DAVV for admission in courses, mostly professional ones – offered by its teaching departments.  Besides, the university has also announced plans to scrap departmental level entrance exam for admission in courses other than CET.

“In non-CET courses, admission will be granted through merit in qualifying exams,” said DAVV admission cell chairman Prof VB Gupta.  The university has also changed pattern of examinations and marking scheme for CET, which is to be conducted tentatively in second week of June.  Every year, graduate and post-graduate courses are divided into four different groups viz A, B, C and D. While Group A consists of MBA and MCom courses, Group B consists of integrated courses and BVoc courses. Group C also consists of integrated courses and Group D comprises MSc courses.

This pattern was confusing, so the university created one group of graduate courses and another for post-graduate courses.
Group A consists of course for which eligibility is 10+2 and Group B for which eligibility is graduation.  One new group, Group C has been created for courses (PhD and MPhil) for which eligibility is post-graduation.

DET to be held across country
CET is a national level exam conducted online at 28 centres across the country whereas DET, which is also a national level exam, is conducted only at centres established in UTD campus in Indore.  With the university deciding to hold DET also along with CET, it will also be conducted at 28 centres across the country.  This will attract PhD students from all over the country to DAVV. Besides, MPhil will also be conducted across the country instead of UTD campus in Indore.

Change in paper format, marking scheme
The university has also made changes in format of exam paper. The question paper, till last year, used to contain 75 objective type questions each carrying three marks (total 225 marks). The marking scheme used to be three for each right answer and minus one for each incorrect answer.  The university used to grant 1.30 hours for completing the exam.

Now, the paper will consists of 100 objective type questions each of them carrying four marks. As per new marking scheme, now four marks will be granted for each right answer and minus one for each incorrect answer. As the number of questions has been increased, the timing has accordingly changed. Now, students will get 2 hours to complete the exam. “Previously, the negative marking was 1/3 but now it is ¼ so the chances of students scoring high will me more,” said Gupta.

Sub-group A1 (General course): Bcom (Hons), MBA (e-commerce)-5 years, MBA (Management Science)-5 years etc
