Party workers make all-out efforts to woo electorate

The election campaign reached a crescendo in Kozhikode district on Saturday with just a day left for public electioneering for the Lok Sabha polls.

On the penultimate day, candidates, party workers and leaders were busy campaigning all over the Kozhikode and Vadakara constituencies. Voting slips containing the names of booths and serial numbers on the electorate list were distributed.

Colourful processions led by jeeps and trucks fitted with loudspeakers could be seen in Kozhikode city and its suburbs as well as the mofussil towns of Koyilandy and Vadakara. Announcements seeking votes for candidates along with songs played for hours from the loudspeakers.

Local leaders, including elected representatives of local bodies, held street-corner meetings to woo voters. Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, who is contesting in Kozhikode, held meetings that began from Elathur Assembly segment at 10 a.m. His campaign covered parts of Balussery and Koduvally Assembly segments and culminated around 5 p.m. A roadshow was also held covering the constituency.

M.K. Raghavan of the United Democratic Front (UDF) began his campaign from Peruvanna at 9 a.m. His electioneering was concentrated at Koduvally, Kozhikode South, Beypore and concluded at Chaliyam in the evening.

In the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency where a high-octane battle is going on between Congress candidate K. Muraleedharan and CPI(M) strongman P. Jayarajan, party workers are leaving no stone unturned to woo the electorate.

The Bharatiya Janata Party took out a march in the city in protest against the attack on NDA candidate in Wayanad Thushar Vellappally a day ago. BJP State vice president Chettoor Balakrishnan, who inaugurated the protest meeting, accused the UDF and the LDF leadership of misleading minorities.
