BENGALURU: A local court on Saturday awarded life imprisonment to six men for murdering a youth on February 5, 2017. The court, which slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on each, remanded a minor involved in the crime to a juvenile home.

Ashok Kumar alias Aashu, Akash alias AK, Nagaraja alias Naga alias Blacky, Ananda alias Kuppa, Shiva and Rajanna alias Angadi Rajanna were convicted by the 71st city civil court. They had dropped out of school in their early 20s and are residents of Bandepalya. The minor is also from the same area.

Arun Kumar was attacked by the gang when he came out of the house in Bandepalya at 11.30am. In a bid to escape, Arun ran inside a grocery shop but the gang pulled him out and thrashed him in the middle of the road as passersby watched in horror. They hacked Arun to death.

Based on a complaint filed by Arun’s father, police had arrested seven persons. Earlier on April 16, judge Mohan Prabhu announced the conviction and reserved the quantum of punishment. While five convicts were held guilty of murder, Angadi Rajanna was convicted on charges of abetting it.

Public prosecutor KJ Meenakumari said the gang and Arun would often fight over trivial issues. “Rajanna told the others it was better to get rid of Arun. He was the one who planned the killing,”he added.
