Two men were arrested and a total of 3,948 quarters of illicit liquor were seized from them in west Delhi, the police said on Friday.
In the wake of Lok Sabha elections, special drive against illicit liquor has been launched by the Delhi police. Acting on a tip-off, the staff of Moti Nagar police station on Thursday started checking vehicles at Bali Nagar red light picket near Raja Garden Chowk and zeroed in on a car, a senior police officer said.
A total 51 cartons of 2,508 quarters, each containing 180 ml liquor, with the label ‘for sale in Haryana only’ was recovered from the vehicle, the officer said.
The car driver was identified as Raj Kumar Giri, a resident of Uttam Nagar. A case was registered against him, the officer added. Giri was earlier involved in a case under Delhi Excise Act, the officer said.
In the second incident, a 23-year-old car driver was arrested and 30 cartons of illegal liquor were recovered from him in Vikaspuri. On checking the vehicle, the police stumbled upon 1,440 quarters of Haryana made illegal liquor, said the officer.
