Ludhiana: Residents of Ward 28 (Dhandhari Khurd) have decided to boycott the Lok Sabha elections, and they have warned leaders from all political parties not to come to their area seeking votes. They staged a protest in the locality on Friday, and they have got some banners installed in the locality where they have written the message clearly for leaders. They said if there was no development in the area, they would not vote for anybody.
Ward 28 residents are suffering from several civic issues, but the blockage of sewerage system is the worst thing they were facing for the past five years. Residents rued that instead of getting 24-hours drinking water, they were being made to pass through sewage water, which floods the streets all the time. They claimed their children pass through this filthy water to reach their school, and sometimes even slip and fall in that water.
Describing the problems, area resident Sukhwinder Singh said when leaders could not solve their problem, then they had no right to seek votes again in their favour. He said there were no concrete roads and public parks in the area, and there was no arrangement for garbage disposal.
Another resident, Manjinder Singh, said they had decided to boycott the elections because these leaders did not help them while they faced problems. He said despite staging protests, there was no end to their woes. He said people go to the gurdwara or to their offices while crossing this water, and they were also facing several health problems, but nobody was bothered.
Meanwhile, zonal commissioner Surinder Pal said sewerage cleaning with super-suction machines was going on, and the problem would soon be resolved. He said there was a problem of illegal ‘vehras’ in the area, and recently a few connections were also snapped.
