CHENNAI: The DMK has sought repoll in 10 polling booths in Dharmapuri Lok Sabha constituency after a voter claimed he had cast votes six times on Thursday. In a petition to chief electoral officer Satyabrata Sahoo, the party accused the PMK of capturing polling booths.

At Nathamedu polling booth, a voter told media that he cast votes 6 times. This was expected after PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss said at a public meeting in Tiruporur that polling booths would be in the AIADMK alliance’s control, said DMK Rajya Sabha MP R S Bharathi. The party said it had video evidence to prove its claims. Officials had colluded with those who cast bogus votes, said Bharathi.

CCTV cameras fixed at polling booths had not captured bogus voting, said Bharathi. No verification exercise was done when PMK’s bogus voters barged into polling booths. Hence, conducting repoll was necessary, he said.

Reacting to the accusations, Sahoo said a detailed report had been sought from Dharmapuri district electoral officer. He said proper action would be taken based on the report of the DEO.

Meanwhile, the VCK has sought repoll in Chidambaram constituency as PMK and AIADMK cadres had indulged in largescale violence in Ariyalur. VCK chief Thol Thirumavalavan submitted a petition to Cuddalore district election officer in this regard.
