Visitors barred from meeting Lalu in jail, RJD alleges BJP ploy

RANCHI: The Birsa Munda central jail authorities on Saturday barred incarcerated RJD president Lalu Prasad from visitors citing "law and order" concerns. As per jail norms Lalu is permitted to meet up to three visitors every Saturday at the Ranchi hospital where he is under treatment for several ailments.
On Saturday morning, the administration pasted a notice on the hospital board signed by jail superintendent A K Choudhary stating Lalu's Saturday meetings have been suspended. When asked about issues arising from visitors, Choudhary said: "I will not go into details. You know better". A jail official, however, said the order had been issued on the direction of seniors in the state administration.
The notice barring visitors to lalu's ward
RJD said the ban on visitors was a conspiracy on the BJP-led government's part. RJD state general secretary and spokesperson Kailash Yadav said: "It is arbitrary to ban visitors. BJP is afraid of Lalu and wants to stop news about him from reaching the public. The harder BJP tries to crush us, the stronger will be the people's response ."
The development comes a day after JD(U)'s Bihar spokesperson Neeraj Kumar approached the EC with a complaint that Lalu was distributing party tickets using his signature from the hospital. In a letter to the EC, Kumar said: "Has Lalu Prasad, a convict in the fodder scam case, taken permission from a court before using his signature to distribute tickets? If not, the EC should declare illegal the candidature of those who have obtained his signature to contest in the Lok Sabha elections."
