Blunders in Inter results: Marksheets say didn’t appear for exam, but passed

HYDERABAD: A day after Intermediate results were announced, government colleges and lecturers on Friday said they have come across 150 cases where wrong information has been printed on the provisional marksheets provided to the students.
Accusing the Telangana State Board of Intermediate Education (TSBIE) of making mistakes, they said even after several candidates appeared for the exam, they were marked absent. Likewise, even when the candidate is marked absent, the result of that particular subject has been printed as either pass or fail.

“This shows negligence on part of the board and the third-party, which has been given the responsibility of handling technical services of the board. How can they print such mistakes? Further, when a student is marked absent for two subjects, how will he/she secure more than 800 marks?” questioned a junior lecturer. All the 150 names have been submitted to the board, claimed lecturers.

Corporate colleges, too, complained that many of their students received marksheets with wrong combination of subjects. In one of the cases, an MPC student has economics and commerce printed on the marksheet.

“There are infinite number of mistakes in the provisional marksheets. Starting with wrong spelling of the subject to printing wrong combination of subjects and marking wrong attendance, the board has made several mistakes and students are facing the brunt of it,” said Ashok Kumar, academic dean of Narayana Group.

“In our Madhapur branch, the authorities have received six complaints until now,” he added. Ashok Kumar said that Narayana Group will hold an internal meeting on Saturday with the deans of its institutes to find out more about these problems and would be approaching the board to get the mistakes rectified.

Reacting to the matter, the TSBIE said they would look into the complaints and are rectifying the mistakes brought to their notice.

“In two cases, the chief superintendent failed to send the blank barcodes and that is the reason why the subject marks are not reflected on the provisional memo, instead it was printed as ‘absent and fail’. In another case, the hall ticket of the candidate was not sent and the result was again printed as ‘absent and fail’. We have asked the respective examination centre to send details. The mistakes will be rectified in the marksheets, which will be sent to their respective colleges,” said A Ashok, TSBIE secretary, advising students to approach the board for any discrepancy.

“If other complaints are genuine, the students or colleges would have approached the board. And if they do, we will look into it,” Ashok added.
