KANPUR: Ten coaches of the Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express derailed near Kanpur early on Saturday, injuring five people, railway officials said.

No casualties were reported so far in the incident that occurred near Rooma railway station in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur district at 12.54 am. Five people are reported injured and four out of the 10 bogies derailed have overturned, officials said.



Smita Vats Sharma, ADG PR, Indian Railways said there was no serious injury in the accident, and all passengers have been evacuated. Accident Relief Train (ART) & Accident Relief Medical Equipment (ARME) have been dispatched to the accident site.

Kanpur DM VV Pant said that rescue operation is underway. Buses are being arranged to take passengers to Kanpur Central station. Railway authorities have said that they are arranging a train to take the passengers of the affected train from Kanpur to Delhi.



An NDRF team of 45 personnel have reached the spot and rescue operation is under way, as per latest reports.

The accident has affected normal traffic on the busy route.
