There is a sharp increase in the number of tourists visiting Kodiveri anicut in the past few days.

People said that improved amenities would make their trip more enjoyable.

Warning

The anicut is located about 15 km from Gobichettipalayam on River Bhavani. Its picturesque waterfall attracts tourists not only from within the State, but also from Karnataka in large numbers.

Since sand bags have been dumped in the waterfall area, taking bath is made safe and the police continue to warn people against venturing into the dangerous area.

“It is the only destination that can be reached by bus and a place where people with their families can spend a whole day without spending much,” said V. Pushpa from Kavindapadi who visits the anicut frequently.

She said that there was a sharp increase in the number of tourists, including people from Karnataka, visiting the anicut as schools were closed.

However, she pointed out the limited rooms available for men and women to change clothes and also the inadequate toilet facilities.

P. Shanmugam from Karur said that the tourist spot needed more facilities, including access to protected drinking water, toilets, seating arrangements and dustbins. He also wanted special food counters to be opened during tourist season as the food in hotels was not of good quality.

People intend to spend a whole day at the waterfall. But non-availability of quality food and lack of amenities caused inconvenience to them, said M. Pavithra, a home maker from Chamrajnagar.
