Lakhs of devotees from various parts of the country and abroad thronged the Vaigai riverbed here on Friday to witness the event of Lord Kallazhagar's entry into the river.
Amidst chanting of 'Govinda Govinda' and spraying of water by devotees, Lord Kallazhagar enters into the Vaiga

The decorated idol of Lord Sundararaja Perumal adorned in green silk (a symbol of prosperity and booming agriculture) and mounted on a golden stallion, was taken in a procession from the temple in the early hours, and later entered River Vaigai in the guise of Lord Kallazhagar, amid chanting by devotees. At the riverbed, the deity was received as per tradition by Lord Veeraraghava Perumal, mounted on silver stallion.
It was estimated that over 10 lakh devotees congregated here to witness the event. The idol was later taken in a procession to Ramarayar Mandapam here where the devotees welcomed by spraying water as part of tradition.
The historical event was held as part of the ongoing 12-day annual Chithirai Brahmotsavam of the world-renowned Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple.
