Today here at the mosque, members are collecting stem cell swabs hoping to find a match for a child with cancer.
"the baby is right now at the edge, the baby only has about 2 weeks to find a donor.
So that is how we got involved in this.
Arham baloch was diagoned with two forms of leukemia at 3 months old.
Now at five months he's recieving treatment and needs to find a stem cell donor.
The victoria islamic center is working with dkms, an international non-profit dedicated to eradicating blood cancers.
Be the match.org shows the liklihood of finding a donor for an asian or pacific islander is 41%, black is 23%, white 77%, hispanic 46% and american indian 57%.
"we are spreading awareness to everyone because it is very hard to find a match.
70 percent of the time the family members don't match.
So we are trying to reach out to people and spread awareness, educate them and convince them to be donors to help others in simple ways.
