The electronic voting machines (EVMs) used in Thursday’s Lok Sabha election in Dakshina Kannada have been kept at the National Institute of Technology-Karnataka (NITK) in Surathkal near here.
According to Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Sasikanth Senthil S., the constituency, as a whole, recorded 77.90 % voting.
The voting by female voters stood at 78.46 % followed by male voters at 77.33 % and others at 29.41%.
Mr. Senthil checked the electronic voting machines in the presence of representatives of political parties at NITK on Friday.
The strong rooms in which the EVMs have been kept were sealed in the presence of Mr. Senthil and Election Observer Rajiv Rathan on Friday. Special security with CCTV cameras has been provided to the building in which the EVMs have been kept.
According to the final voting details provided by the office of the Deputy Commissioner, of the total 17,24,460 electors, 13,43, 378 (77.90 %) voters exercised their franchise. Of them, 6,89,693 were women, 6,53,655 were men and 30 were other voters.
The counting of votes will be taken up on May 23.
