The G. Viswanathan Multispeciality Hospitals and Dr. Shantha Breast Cancer Foundation launched a mobile cancer care unit and a new generation endoscope facility for early detection of cancer.
The event, which marked the 80th anniversary of the hospital, saw V. Shanta, Chairman of the Adyar Cancer Institute, Chennai, inaugurating the endoscope facility while Rajkumar Mitra, General Manager, Bank of India, Chennai, inaugurated the cancer care vehicle.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Shanta urged all oncologists to work towards making cancer care and hospice affordable for all. “It is the responsibility of the medical practitioners to ensure that nobody is ignored for not being able to afford treatment.” Laying stress on paediatric cancer, saying it was curable, Dr. Shanta requested all doctors to urge the government to make efforts for the cause.
V. Jayapal, son of Dr. G Viswanathan, thanked his nephew K. Govindaraj and his son Senthil for carrying on his father's legacy. “My father used to say that if you are doing something for the poor, let it be cancer treatment. The cancer centre is doing impeccable work in treating cancer and ensuring that nobody is left behind,” he said. Dr. Govindaraj and others spoke.
