mumbai Updated: Apr 20, 2019 05:59 ISTThe two policemen, who allegedly refused to help a 24-year-old woman who told them she had been molested and instead asked her to dial 100 (police helpline) on Wednesday, have been identified as constables attached to the Bandra Government Railway Police (GRP) station.
Sunil Jadhav, senior police inspector of Bandra GRP, said they are preparing a report against the two constables. “This report will be submitted to the superiors and departmental action will be taken against them,” Jadhav said. He said the constables had failed to do their duty.
According to the Bandra GRP officials, the two constables were on duty on Wednesday night near Bandra station when the woman approached them at 10.30pm.
The woman said she had been molested and also pointed out the accused to the two policemen, but instead of accompanying her and arresting the accused, they asked her to dial 100 for help.
Meanwhile, the GRP is on the lookout for the accused. Late on Thursday night and almost 24 hours after the incident, the Bandra GRP registered a first information report against the man.
Investigators are scanning CCTV footages from platform number five at Bandra station and the exit of the skywalk near the station to identify the culprit.
“Due to poor lighting on platform number 5 and on the stairs, it is difficult to spot the accused in the CCTV recordings. However, we are trying to check the recordings of the skywalk exit as the victim had seen him there after the incident,” said a police officer attached to Bandra GRP.
The woman in her complaint said she had been walking towards the bridge after getting off at Bandra when she felt a hand on her back pocket. “Due to shock and the darkness (there was no electricity there), I was unable to turn,” she said.
By 10.30pm, she was outside the station and went to the traffic chowkie, but it was empty. She then spotted the two policemen and pointed out the culprit on the skywalk.
However, she said they refused to help her.
