Ludhiana: City businessmen complain of being at the receiving end due to authorities’ failure of not being able to do away with the problem of waterlogging near underpasses on Delhi GT Road and national highway stretch near Jalandhar Bypass.
On Wednesday afternoon, when it started to pour, several underpasses were immediately flooded with water and commuters faced a lot of problems. According to businessmen, maximum underpasses are on Delhi Road, where factories are located on both sides of the road and along with the problem of waterlogging, a lot of traffic jams can also be seen whenever it rains. According to businessmen, the issue had been brought to the knowledge of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and municipal corporation on several occasions, but no action had been taken.
President of Focal Point Sheds Association Rajneesh Ahuja said, “Even after slight rainfall, the entire GT Road is flooded with water and the underpasses become like rivers. The situation is same on the national highway going towards Jalandhar where commuters are harrowed using the underpass near Best Price. Waterlogging not only makes commuting difficult, but also causes damage to vehicles and our goods as well. Moreover, while crossing such deep waters, vehicles often develop a fault and we have to pay heavy price to get them repaired.”
Ahuja also added that the matter has already been brought to the knowledge of NHAI and MC, but no solution has been provided by both the authorities so far.
Speaking on the issue, president of United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association Inderjit Singh Navyug said, “Frequent waterlogging near and in the underpasses and traffic jams have been giving a tough time to industrialists and workers. The most shocking part is every department is running away from its responsibility and turning a blind eye towards our problem. We request both NHAI and MC to resolve the problem by the earliest, be it an issue regarding the design of the underpasses or sewerage problem.”
