The Bharatiya Janata Party had displayed much pride in its vast support system of ground-level workers with its slogan 'Mera Booth, Sabse Mazboot'.

Who knew the campaign tagline would be twisted by the public into a bizarre form of protest? Following the axiom 'Mera Boot, Sabse Mazboot', an unidentified man hurled a shoe at BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao today in New Delhi.

The boot projectile came flying towards GVL Narasimha Rao when he was holding a press conference about Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya joining the BJP and the party fielding her from Bhopal. Congress has fielded party stalwart Digvijaya Singh from Bhopal.

The irony was that GVL Narasimha Rao was attacking the Congress for opposing Sadhvi Pragya's nomination. He was saying that there are no charges on her and it was at this moment that the shoe came flying at GVL Narasimha Rao.

Early reports indicate that the man who threw the shoe has been identified. The shoe pelter is one Shakti Bhargava, a surgeon working at a private hospital in Kanpur. He was identified on the basis of an identity card found lying at the spot.

Shakti Bhargava has been taken to the IP Estate Police Station.

Upon going through his Facebook posts, one can see that Shakti Bhargava is a vocal critic of the Modi government. He has also called himself a 'whistleblower' in multiple posts on his social media. Shakti Bhargava claims he has been "pursuing the irregularities in the sale of immovable properties done by a Government of India company."
