Once I’M back in power…
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
Modi brings Gujarat back in political narrative; says those remote-controlling the UPA govt between 2004 and 2014 are angry a ‘Gujju chaiwala’ forced them to seek bail; says they were bent on destroying Gujarat by jailing Amit Shah and police officers; promises to send them behind bars

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said once he’s back in power he would jail those who remote-controlled the UPA government for 10 years (2004-2014) and were bent on destroying Gujarat by jailing its leader Amit Shah and several police officers. Making Gujarat and its interests the focal point of his speech while addressing a poll rally in Himmatnagar on Wednesday, Modi said, “These people, sitting in Delhi, tried to damage reputation and interest of Gujarat and acted as if the State was not part of India. Amit Shah and several police officers were put behind bars. All kinds of tactics were used to destroy Gujarat.” Modi asked, “Would you give the same people chance to destroy Gujarat again?” The crowd loudly responded “no”.

Without taking any name, the PM said, “They (Gandhi family) are angry as they had to bail themselves out. They regretted that a ‘Gujju chaiwala’ forced them — the family that ruled the country for four generations — to go to court and seek bail. Modi said once he’s back in power, he will ensure that they are behind bars.

“You gave me a chance in 2014. I brought them (Gandhis) to the doors (of jail) and if you will give me another five years, they will go inside. However, if they come to power again, they will again set sight on Gujarat,” Modi said. Modi asked the crowd if people of Gujarat approve the language being used by Congress president Rahul Gandhi against him.

“The British used golis (bullets), while the Congress is using gaalis (abuse) against us. Initially, they said anything about chaiwala, then they started saying things about chowkidar and now they are saying the entire community is chor,” Modi said.

Addressing a poll rally in Maharashtra recently, Gandhi had said, “I have a question. Why all the thieves have Modi in their names whether be it Nirav Modi, Lalit Modi and Narendra Modi? We don’t know how many more such Modis will come out.”

Modi said he has come to Gujarat to ask voters to help BJP win all the 26 Lok Sabha seats in the April 23 singlephase polling in the state. He also said this election will decide if nationalist forces will rule the country or those who want to help the “tukde tukde gang” by scrapping sedition law.

Modi said earlier riots and curfew were a regular feature in Gujarat, but everything has stopped now. He asked, “Are riots and curfew things of the past? If such things happen, should I remain silent? Earlier bomb blasts took place in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi and other places. Have they stopped or not?” The audience roared back, “yes”. Talking about Opposition disunity, Modi said Congress has been forced to contest on half the seats it fought previously and hence it’s tally will reduce by half compared to 2014.

Modi asked, “Those sitting in Delhi (Congress) believe India is their ancestral property while voices from Andhra Pradesh (Chandrababu Naidu), UP (Mayawati and Akhilesh) and Bengal (Mamta Banerjee) clamour for the post of PM. Tell me, would you choose your own man (Modi) or the other voices?” This led audience to start chanting “Modi, Modi”.

Raising the issue of surgical strikes against Pakistan after Uri and Pulwama attacks, Modi said, “Congress feels pain when our soldiers come back safely after striking deep in Pakistan. They question their valour. The statements of Congress and the Mahamilavati leaders become headlines in Pakistan. Congress wants to remove security cover of soldiers by announcing to repeal AFPSA. They want to help those who burn Tricolour and indulge in terrorism by striking the sedition law.”

Mocking Congress leaders for chest thumping on the state of economy during the UPA tenure, Modi said, “In 2013, the finance minister of the ‘remotecontrolled’ UPA government announced Indian economy had become 11th largest in the world. In just five years of my government, Indian economy has become sixth largest. We aim to make it among the top three soon.”

Playing the son of the soil card, Modi said Indira Gandhi dispatched Gujarat leader Morarji Desai to jail, but he was much loved and went on to become PM. Indira Gandhi then played a political game and removed him from the post in just two years. Now I, the son of Gujarat, have become the PM and the Congress is trying hard to remove me.

Congress doesn’t realise how badly it will fail as 130-crore people of India are with me and given me strength.”

PM Modi in Surendranagar
Addressing a rally in Surendranagar, Modi said 2019 election is not about electing MPs or the PM but to decide the direction India needs to take for better future. “It is for you to decide if you want a bright future or hand it back to those who wasted 70 years. Now, we should not give even 70 minutes to these people (Congress).”

He said getting clear majority in Lok Sabha election is important as ‘majboor” Sarkar will not work. “We do not need majboor (weak) government but a majboot (strong) government. Only strong government will ensure that the nation stays as one, moves ahead and progresses,” he said.

“Congress and other alliances have problem with India’s progress. But it is our decision that India does not limp. It is after years that India has got government with complete majority and if you give BJP 26 seats (out of 26 in Gujarat) it will help me,” he urged people. He also referred to himself as “Majuriya Number 1” stating he has slogged for last five years for people and nation.

He added that his hard-work has ensured that ‘monghvari (inflation)’ does not bother people and scams don’t break out every other day. He said Indian soldiers went inside Pakistan and killed terrorists. “But, questions raised by Congress over India’s strike are being praised in Pakistan,” he said.

Without naming Sam Pitroda, Modi said a Congress advisor from the US targeted Indian middleclass. “He (Pitroda) said middleclass is selfish and tax should be imposed on them to run the country. On the other hand, BJP has increased the income-tax exemption limit to Rs 5 lakh,” Modi said.

PM Modi in Anand

Addressing the last rally of the day in Gujarat, Modi once again talked about injustice to Gujarat leaders Sardar Patel and Morarji Desai. He said, “Congress did injustice to Sardar Patel and his daughter Maniben. Now, they are insulting the ideas of Sardar Patel by announcing to cancel sedition law if Congress is voted to power. After Gujaratis Sardar Patel and Morarji Desai, they are after ‘this chowkidar (Modi)’ as they feel Gujarat is an enemy to them.”

Modi alleged that Congress is anti-middleclass and anti-OBC as they have insulted both. “Congress Namdar (elite) labelled the OBC community chor recently. By abusing Modi, they are insulting an entire community. Congress advisor calls middleclass selfish,” he said.

Modi said benefits of home loan subsidy, education loan, RERA, cheap heart stents and cheaper medicines under his regime have benefitted the middleclass. He claimed the 50-page Congress manifesto has no mention of middleclass.
