Melbourne heat cracks almost a century of records

It may be tough to fathom on this far chillier day, but the two consecutive days above 30 degrees this week have come so late in April for the first time in almost a century.

It's the city's driest ever start to the year, as Tuesday cracked 30.3 degrees and Wednesday hit 30, the first time that's happened this late since 1922.

Melbourne is predicted to hit 28 degrees with the sun shining on Saturday. I'd say it's our last chance to hit the beach this weekend, but really, who knows?

Transport update

As we mentioned earlier, there are delays on the Monash Freeway at the Ferntee Gully Road outbound exit ramp. One lane remains open, but traffic is slow.

Those outbound delays on the Sunbury line have cleared, and aside from one inbound cancellation on the Craigieburn line, trains are running fine. Please do comment below or reach out on email or Twitter if you see anything around town.

Images of on-the-run road rage driver released

A driver remains on the run after he allegedly stabbed another man in a brutal road rage incident in Hallam, in Melbourne's east, earlier this month.

Police have today released a composite image of his face along with an image of just his clothing during the incident.

Two cars repeatedly rammed each other in broad daylight on April 10, leading to the driver of a Mitsubishi Pajero emerging from his car and stabbing the driver of a white Daewoo ute.

The victim of the stabbing was taken to hospital but later released, while the Pajero driver fled the scene. Police have now stepped up their attempts to identify and find him.

Welcome to Thursday!

Melbourne, how are we?

Noticeably colder today than yesterday - it's about 13 degrees in the CBD right now. There will be clouds about all day, we'll reach a top of 18 and see some light winds.

In terms of transport, there are delays of up to 30 minutes outbound on the Sunbury line. There's one lane blocked on the Monash Freeway outbound exit ramp in Glen Waverley, after a truck lost some of its load.

Coming at you soon with news headlines and more updates. Stick around.
