Lok Sabha elections and assembly bypolls: Tamil Nadu sees brisk polling

CHENNAI: Brisk polling was reported from 38 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu after polling began at 7am on Thursday. Polling for byelections to 18 assembly constituencies are also being held.
Long queues of voters were seen at several polling stations even before voting began. Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and film stars like Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Ajith and Vijay were among those who cast their votes early.
There are 66,699 polling booths in 38 Lok Sabha constituencies and 18 assembly constituencies in the state. Out of the total 5.98 crore voters, 2.95 crore are men while 3.02 crore are women. There are 5,790 third gender voters.
Polling was delayed by 30 to 45 minutes in some booths due to non-functioning of electronic voting machines.
There were no separate queues for women as mentioned in the election rules. Women were also not given priority to vote.
