A 22-year-old employee of an app-based food delivery firm was allegedly killed by his former friends in south Delhi’s Neb Sarai over a year-old feud. Four persons have been arrested in connection with the case, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Vijay Kumar said that the victim, Surjit Kashyap, resident of Jawahar Park, was stabbed and strangulated.
The accused have been identified as Sombir Singhal, Vicky Jha, Satbir and Vicky Bhatt. Police teams are on the lookout for two absconding accused Golu and Ravinder Bisht.
Surjit’s brother Amit said that he was last seen by the family around 2 p.m. on Monday. “He started working with the company around two months ago. On Monday, he left around 11 a.m. and came back at 2 p.m. after which he hurriedly went out after getting ready. When he did not come back at night, we started looking for him on Tuesday morning but could not find him,” the brother said.
On Wednesday morning, Surjit’s body was found by passersby who informed the police. A murder case was registered and an investigation was taken up.
With the help of local intelligence, the accused were identified and apprehended.
The police said that Sombir works as a school cab driver, Vicky Jha works as a helper in a private hospital, Vicky Bhatt works as a data entry operator, and Satbir is unemployed.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly told the police that Sombir and Vicky Jha had an old enmity with the victim and the two were holding a grudge since then.
Found in shallow ditch
“The accused alleged that Surjit used to bully and threaten Sombir almost on a daily basis. On Monday, they had information that Surjit would be with a friend in Neb Sarai. They reached the spot, an abandoned farmhouse, and killed him,” Mr Kumar said, adding that the accused disposed his body in a shallow ditch and covered it with leaves.
Amit said that about a year ago, the victim and the accused were friends and used to abuse drugs together; they had a fight over an issue after which they parted ways and Surjit quit drugs.
