Ludhiana: Dehlon police have booked three travel agents for duping three youngsters of Rs 25 lakh each on pretext of sending them to Canada on work permit. However, the accused sent them to Malaysia and later refused to return their money. The three accused had borrowed money on loan.
The accused have been identified as Tajinder Singh of Sudhar, Gurpreet Singh of Raikot and Naresh Thapa.
Complainant, Jaskarn Singh (23) of Alamgir village said he, along with his brother Gurjinder Singh and friend of the same locality Ramandeep Singh, wanted to go to Canada on work permit. They came to know about the agent Gurpreet Singh through a friend. In October 2017, they met the three accused who informed them that they would be required to submit Rs 25 lakh each in three instalments to get work permit of Canada.
Complainant added that a few days later, the accused sent them fake visas on their mobiles and also took Rs 7 lakh from each of them for the same. They added that in December, the accused demanded the second instalment of Rs 7 lakh from each of them for further paper work and took the money. In March 2018, the accused told the victims that they have booked their tickets to Canada form Kolkata. Following this, the trio reached Kolkata and handed over the remaining amount to the accused before boarding the flight.
“Instead of sending us to Canada, the accused sent us to Malaysia stating that at Malaysia airport his agent would take them to Canada. However, on reaching Malaysia, we did not find any agent there. We had no money at that point of time and with no other option left, we had to contact our parents in India to arrange for money so that we could return,” alleged Jaskaran.
The investigating officer form Dehlon police station ASI Gurpreet Singh said an FIR has been lodged in this case following an investigation on Tuesday. “The accused will soon be arrested,” he said.
