In a case of electoral irony, a college student, who is yet to be enrolled as voter, was selected by the District Election Wing for poll duty on Thursday.

Twenty-year-old Selvam, a B.Sc student in a private arts and science college in Thanjavur, was seen actively working at a polling booth in Palli Agraharam in Thanjavur Assembly constituency.

“The nature of work entrusted with me at this polling booth is interesting since I was involved in such activity as a NSS cadet earlier. I came here yesterday along with other polling staff and helped them in setting up the booth,” he said.

Asked whether he had exercised his franchise, he replied in the negative saying he had not enrolled himself as voter.

On whether any awareness camp or enrollment drive was held in his college in the recent past, he replied in the negative again.
