Gang hacks businessman to death

Coimbatore: A 37-year-old man was hacked to death by a six-member gang at his office on Chettipalayam-Eachanari road on Thursday afternoon.
R Paranthaman, of Meena Estate near Sowripalayam in the city, was engaged in buying and selling second hand cars from his office on Chettipalayam–Eachanari road.
Around noon on Thursday, a six -member gang entered his office and hacked Paranthaman to death with deadly weapons. The gang made away with more than Rs 2 lakh in cash and a gold bracelet from Paranthaman. They also snatched a gold chain from a woman staff.
A few staff members sustained injuries when they attempted to nab the gang. Before leaving the crime scene, the gang members damaged the CCTV cameras and digital video recorder (DVR). The staff informed the Podanur police, who sent the body to the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem.
Deputy commissioner of police L Balaji Saravanan also reached the spot and held inquiry with the staff. Sniffer dog and finger prints experts were pressed into service. The city police formed three special teams to nab the gang members. The motive of the murder would be known only after the arrest of the gang members, police said.
