A seven-month-old baby boy was run over by a mini-lorry inside a brick kiln in Vellavedu police station limits near Tiruvallur on Tuesday. According to the police, Kamaraj and his wife Mala were living with their one-and-a-half-year-old first son near a brick kiln unit at Pulianthope, where they work.
On Tuesday, the couple made their younger son Vasanth Raj sleep in the shade near their hut and were working nearby. “Many lorries come into the unit to load and unload bricks. Manimaran, a relative of Kamaraj, was reversing the lorry. He did not see the child and drove over him,” said a police inspector. The child died instantaneously and Manimaran fled the spot. A case was registered and he was arrested later in the day. He has been remanded to judicial custody. “He said that a cloth had covered the baby, hence he failed to notice,” added the officer.
