2 Naxals killed in Chhattisgarh encounter
At least two Naxals have been killed in an encounter with District Reserve Guard (DRG) in the forest area of Dhanikarka under Kuakonda police station limits.
Update: VVPAT at polling station number 200 in Silchar, which was not working earlier today, has been restored. Sahadat Ali, Sector Officer, said, "The VVPAT is fine now, people can cast their votes."
Karti Chidambaram: The main factor is that the people of Tamil Nadu want the fascist BJP government out. They want a secular government led by the Congress.

The Election Commission has deployed 194 companies of central forces in West Bengal in the three constituencies that are going to polls today, PTI reports.
Update: Reports of EVMs malfunctioning in West Bengal. GJM leader Binay Tamang unable to vote in Darjeeling. Congress' Deepa Dasmunsi unable to vote in Raiganj.

The Lok Sabha election in Vellore, scheduled for today, was cancelled amid allegations of suspected use of money to influence voters.
Polling in Tripura East Lok Sabha seat too was postponed to April 23 over law and order concerns.

30 lakh voters to decide fate of 24 candidates in Srinagar, Udhampur
Over 29.81 lakh voters will decide the fate of 24 candidates, including former J&K chief minister Farooq Abdullah and Union minister Jitendra Singh, contesting the Srinagar and Udhampur seats, which go to polls in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections today.
Authorities have deployed over 80 companies for election duty in the twin constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The twin constituencies have 2,981,083 registered electors, they said.
Twelve candidates each are in the fray for both Srinagar and Udhampur parliamentary constituencies, officials said.
To ensure smooth conduct of elections, 4,426 polling stations have been set up.
Abdullah is pitched against Aga Moshin of the PDP, Irfan Ansari of the People's Conference and Khalid Jehangir of the BJP.
People want change of govt at Centre, state: P Chidambaram
Veteran Congress leader P Chidambaram cast his vote in Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu. Outside the polling booth, he said, "People of Tamil Nadu want a change of government in the Centre and state that is why there is support coming for us."

Out of the 22 vacant Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu, polling is being held for 18 of them. The rest will go to the polls on May 19.
The results of the bypolls to 22 vacant seats hold greater significance since the two year-old Palaniswami government has to win a significant number to retain power in the state.
The vacancies were created both by the death of sitting MLAs, including DMK stalwart M Karunanidhi, and the disqualification of ruling AIADMK members in August 2017.

Three Lok Sabha constituencies in Chhattisgarh, all having Naxal presence, will go to the polls today amid tight security to decide the fate of 36 candidates.
Kanker, Rajnandgaon and Mahasamund Lok Sabha seats will vote in the second phase of polling in the state where around 60,000 security personnel will be on duty.
There are 36 candidates in the fray in these seats, but the main fight is likely to be between the ruling Congress and the main opposition BJP.
