Prohibitory orders under Section 144 will be in force in Byndoor and Kundapur Assembly segments in Udupi district from 6 p.m. on April 21 to 6 a.m. on April 24.
Byndoor Assembly segment in Udupi district is part of the Shivamogga parliamentary constituency, which will go to polls on April 23.
A press release by the Deputy Commissioner, Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, here on Wednesday said that the objective of the prohibitory orders is to maintain peace and order so to facilitate free, fair and impartial polling in Byndoor Assembly segment on April 23. During this period, no public meetings, public processions or other functions could be held in both Kundapur and Byndoor Assembly segments without the permission of the District Election Officer. Gathering of five or more persons on roads, by-lanes, in buildings or around the polling booths is banned.
As soon as the prohibitory orders come into force, workers of political parties who are not voters in the segment and star campaigners should leave the Byndoor Assembly segment.
On the day of polling, campaigning in the 100 metres radius of the polling booths and use of loudspeakers is banned.
