Patna, At least 31.28 per cent electorate exercised their franchise in the first six hours of polling in five Lok Sabha constituencies in Bihar during the second phase of elections.

According to the state election office, the highest 32.6 per cent voters exercised their franchise in Banka constituency followed by 32 per cent each in Katihar and Kishanganj, 31.8 per cent in Purnea and 28 per cent in Bhagalpur.

Meanwhile, a report from Bhagalpur said that voters boycotted polling at five booths in Bhagalpur Lok Sabha constituency by raising the slogan, “No Road, No Vote’.

Assistant returning officer cum sub-divisional officer (Naugachhia) Mukesh Kumar said that voters boycotted polling at polling booths- 110, 111, 112, 135 and 136 in Gopalpur assembly segment under Bhagalpur Lok Sabha constituency expressing their anguish over non-construction of a road in their area.

Mr Kumar said that voters started visiting polling booths- 110 and 136 at around 8 a.m. on the persuasion of personnel engaged for an increasing voting percentage but voters were still boycotting polling at booths-111, 112 and 135.

As it is, these booths were located in the middle of catchment areas of Ganga and Kosi rivers and people in these areas were facing a problem of flood and erosion of embankments almost every year.

Bhagalpur Lok Sabha constituency is presently represented by RJD MP Shailesh Kumar alias Bulo Mandal. Neeraj Kumar alias Gopal Mandal is JD (U) MLA of Gopalpur.
