Former Principal of Loyola College, Leopold Correya, died on Wednesday. Fr. Leopold was rector of the college from 1974 to 1980 and held the post of Principal from 1986 to 1990. Fr. Leopold breathed his last at St. Joseph Hospital in Dindigul.

His colleagues remember him as “a man of great scholarship, terrific wit and humour.”

Claramma, an English professor at the college remembered him as “a friend, who was considerate to his colleagues... He was my father's student and a friend of the family who would always tell me to be bold.”

Physics professor Jerome Das said Fr. Leo Correya was diplomatic in handling men and matters.

Loyola alumni remember him as an able administrator, a great personality and a humble soul.

“Fr. Leo Correya was an inspiring leader who can influence any parent, teacher and the taught. The vacuum created due to his departure cannot be filled in easily,” said an alumnus.

He was a person who was able to maintain a balance between the relationship with a person and his performance as an administrator, as principal, said Antonysamy, English professor.
