Directs DPCC and South Delhi Deputy Commissioner to look into plea

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) and Deputy Commissioner South district to look into a plea alleging that illegal slaughter houses in Uttam Nagar are “creating nuisance.”

A Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel directed authorities to submit a report within two months. “Let the South Delhi Deputy Commissioner and DPCC look into the matter, take appropriate action and furnish a joint factual and action taken report in the matter within two months,” the Bench said.

The directions came when the green panel was hearing a plea moved by city resident Bharat Batra who sought action against illegal slaughter houses in the area.

While noting the allegations in the complaint, the Bench observed, “Grievance in this letter, which has been treated as an application, is against illegal slaughter house and meat shops at Block-B, ward number 20, in Uttam Nagar…(which are) creating nuisance in the area.”

Further the Bench said, “Needless to say that order of the NGT is binding as a decree of court and non-compliance is actionable by way of punitive action, including prosecution.”
