Election 2019 LIVE: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah today hit out at the BJP over its decision to field Malegaon blast accused Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur from Bhopal against Congress’s Digvijaya Singh. Omar asked that if Thakur could not stay in prison due to her health condition, how could she campaign for the Lok Sabha election.
Thakur’s candidature has given fresh ammunition to the Opposition. “When known faces like Narendra Singh Tomar, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Uma Bharti fled away from the contest, the BJP was forced to import a candidate against Digvijaya Singh,” Congress spokesperson Pankaj Chaturvedi said, suggesting Bharti wasn’t even a BJP member.

Union Minister Maneka Gandhi files her nomination from Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency. Before filing her nomination papers, she held a five-km long road show. Maneka Gandhi is a member of Parliament from the state's Pilibhit constituency. Sultanpur is represented by her son Varun Gandhi at present. The BJP has swapped their seats this time. On Monday, the Election Commission banned Maneka Gandhi for campaigning for 48 hours. Sultanpur will vote on May 12. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.

Mohd Salim alleges he was attacked by TMC goons with arms who were threatening voters inside booths. He said his attackers are part of the TMC backed cow smuggling gang in the area. Salim is currently standing unprotected in a field, no police have come to rescue him but he is unharmed. Booth is not protected, local police are helpless and cannot take action, my vehicle is outside and the police is just sitting.

Addressing rally in Amreli, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I have not built Sardar Patel statue to show Nehru lower.”Modi asked if he created Kashmir issues and said that the Congress has given it the legacy. There is no violence in Jammu and Kashmir in panchayat polls. But hundreds of people were killed in Panchayat polls in West Bengal, Modi added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi will battle it out on the former’s home turf Gujarat today as 95 seats across 11 states and a Union Territory vote in Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha elections.
While Modi addressed a rally in Amreli, Gandhi — who was on a two-day visit to Kerala — will be addressing public rallies at Junagadh and Kachchh after public meetings in Uttar Pradesh’s Badaun. PM Modi is also scheduled to address rallies in Karnataka and Kerala.
Union minister Rajnath Singh will hold public meetings in West Bengal, while Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav will file his nomination from Azamgarh.
Voting for Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha elections began today with 95 seats across 11 states and one in the Union Territory of Puducherry. The elections are being held in the shadow of multiple Income Tax raids, with the department saying a cash-for-votes scam was being run in Tamil Nadu. Elections in 38 Lok Sabha and 18 assembly seats of the state are being held, though polling in the Vellore seat has been cancelled following huge cash haul by Income Tax officials. Elections are also being held in 35 assembly constituencies in Odisha.
