Union Minister Maneka Gandhi files her nomination from Sultanpur Lok Sabha constituency. Before filing her nomination papers, she held a five-km long road show. Maneka Gandhi is a member of Parliament from the state's Pilibhit constituency. Sultanpur is represented by her son Varun Gandhi at present. The BJP has swapped their seats this time. On Monday, the Election Commission banned Maneka Gandhi for campaigning for 48 hours. Sultanpur will vote on May 12. Counting of votes will take place on May 23.

Poonam Sinha, SP-BSP-RLD candidate from the Parliamentary constituency files her nomination for Lok Sabha elections. Sinha, the wife of actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha, will be contesting against Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh from the Lucknow parliamentary constituency. According to reliable sources, Poonam Sinha will contest on the Samajwadi Party (SP) ticket with the Bahujan Samaj Party's (BSP) support. 

Election Commission seeks a report from Uttar Dinajpur District Magistrate on the Islampur incident of alleged voter intimidation and attack on Mohammed Salim. Salim alleged that he was attacked by TMC goons with arms who were threatening voters inside booths. He said his attackers are part of the TMC backed cow smuggling gang in the area.

Digvijay Singh Says Sadhvi Pragya Pose Threat as much as any other BJP Candidate | Former chief minister Digvijay Singh on Sadhvi Pragya’s comment on ‘dharm winning over adharm’: I am a religious person. Sadhvi Pragya is no threat to me and she poses a threat as much as any other BJP candidate would. And, as far as her comment on ‘bhagva’ (saffron) emerging as the winner, “these are political comments and I don’t want to comment on it.”

Addressing rally in Amreli, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I have not built Sardar Patel statue to show Nehru lower.”Modi asked if he created Kashmir issues and said that the Congress has given it the legacy. There is no violence in Jammu and Kashmir in panchayat polls. But hundreds of people were killed in Panchayat polls in West Bengal, Modi added.
