MUMBAI: There will be high tides, when sea level will be above 4.5 metres, on 28 days from June to September this monsoon. This is higher than the last monsoon, which had 24 days.

Civic authorities and disaster management agencies, like fire brigade and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), will be on alert these days as floods are likely in the city if it rains heavily during the high tide period. During high tide, the authorities close floodgates to stop rising seawater from entering the city, so if there is a downpour at that time, the rainwater has no outlet.

Apart from water-logging, filth hits shores in Dadar, Mahim, Marine Drive, Worli, Bandra and Juhu, which BMC solid waste management workers collect.

The highest tide will be of 4.91 metres on September 1.
