Captain Cauliflower, the heroic vegetable children can't get enough of
MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL
Captain Cauliflower and Marvin the Mischievous Moose ★★★½
The Coopers Malthouse Mini Merlyn until April 21
There's a new superhero in town and his name is Captain Cauliflower, the creation of British comedians Dan Lees and Neil Frost.
Captain Cauliflower is joined on stage for most of the show by his sidekick, the Mischievous Moose.
There's not much of a story line but the laughs are in Lees and Frost's physical slapstick humour, which has their young audience on the edge of their seats.
"He's behind you," the audience yells in the best tradition of pantomime, as the pair chase each other around the stage.
The entire show is non-verbal, besides two songs, which puts the emphasis firmly on Lees and Frost's clowning.
My five-year-old's verdict is that the pair are "very funny".
With a red and yellow lycra suit, hint of a pot belly and love of cruciferous vegetables, Captain Cauliflower is a hero for our times.
